Post-Punk Duo, SUPERNOVA 1006 Unveils Their Single, “How I Need You”via Negative Gain Productions.

“How I Need You” is a semantic continuation of SUPERNOVA 1006’s Chains album. It was planned to release it as a bonus initially. However, it looked isolated and self-sufficient. Therefore, it was decided to make the song an independent work. Its distinctive feature was a return to the old sound, characterized by the “stringiness” and buoyancy of a cold sound.

“How I Need You” gives the feeling of being immersed in a big cold black lake in which no one lives with the silence and comfort of a lonely existence. It is a sonic journey through a cyberpunk landscape, filled with pulsating rhythms and melancholic melodies.

The single release also features remixes from artists such as Casket Cassette, Giirls, CULTTASTIC & Blind Seagull.

“How I Need You” is available on all major digital outlets including Spotify and Bandcamp.

From 2021 to 2023 the group was inactive. Concert activities were suspended. During this period of time new material was being recorded and developed.

SUPERNOVA 1006 Addresses The Struggle With Identity In ‘Chains’

Every person has turning points in life that change everything. There is a huge number of events that come at you in a continuous stream. It’s often hard to accept the feeling of change and that we will no longer be the same.

We experience change in everything: character, life values, even in our work and personal environments.

The fear of change is natural. You can only close your eyes and move forward towards your dream of finding eternal silence and peace.

Chains is about the struggle for your happiness, about the struggle for silence and harmony with oneself.

InterviewSUPERNOVA 1006’s

Where are you located and what are the vibes like musically there? Have the different places you’ve lived inspired you differently or brought unique challenges to you as an artist?

  • Hello! Currently we live in St. Petersburg. I would describe this place as a “moderately depressed” city. Despite this fact, local artists, including musicians, are increasingly creating things with a very positive mood. Personally, I can say about myself that after moving from Khabarovsk, my mood in creativity has changed little. I don’t know why this is so… well, as it is haha

How did the creative process happen for the new album?

  • I recorded Chains for almost two years, there were several versions of the mixing/sound (in the end, none of them suited me) and at the end of 2022 I decided to completely rewrite it. I really liked the result.

How do you balance time between your profession, your creative work and family? Is the discipline in balancing a challenge?

  • If creativity is important to you, you will always find time for it! Even a little, or just a little bit. It’s easy, of course, if the work is remote and you can work from home, like Sonya, haha. But I work as a doctor and for many years I have developed a system in which I have time for all my hobbies, including my family!

How important is literature to you as an artist?

  • It’s hard to say, most likely not…our music is a personal diary. Each album is always associated with certain events in our lives.

Favorite cities to visit or perform in?

  • I would really like to perform in South Africa, but Sonya is more inclined towards Asia.

What is possibly the most unique album in your collection that was an influence to you?

  • Undoubtedly this is Blackout, I love it! Most of our tracks released after blackout are a kind of rethinking of this sound.

Favorite journeys as an artist?

  • I remember the trip to Komsomolsk-on-Amur more. It was terrible, but I will remember it for the rest of my life. I almost got into a fight with some gangster-looking guys I didn’t know because I refused to have a drink with them after our performance. We also slept on a bed without a mattress right behind the stage and washed ourselves in the morning in the kitchen of the restaurant that was adjacent to this bar… There were a lot of cockroaches and it smelled terrible…

What scares you as an artist?

  • What frightens me is that it has become common for artists to be dictated to what point of view they should support, in what language they should sing, and about what.

Are there any locations on the globe where you would like to retire to & that you think would be inspiring as long as you live?

  • It will be a small village in South Africa, quiet, calm and peaceful. I might add that the hot climate greatly stimulates the creative process!

Name a song that can make you cry. Have you ever cried after you created a song or during the process? If so, what song?

  • The entire Chains album is filled with tears and the severity of the experience. I cried many times listening to it, and remembering everything that I experienced.

What was the last great record you heard?

  • First Offense – Corey Hart

Я прослушал ее по кругу буквально раз 20

Это было мое самое крутое приобретение за последнее время!

Motto?

  • Move while you can

What have you planned in the coming months for the band?

  • We are not very enthusiastic about performing in Russia…at the moment we continue to record new material and are waiting for possible changes that will allow us to tour the world
